Transportation Department

The Wayne County Board of Developmental Disabilities Transportation Department is located at 1000 West Liberty Street in Wooster. The Board owns a fleet of 29 buses, 23 vans, 3 trucks and 3 utility tractors.  Over 400 students and adults, including 50 wheelchairs, are transported on a daily basis to and from school and work.  In 2010, the transportation staff traveled over 677,000 miles transporting the individuals served, averaging nearly 3,500 miles each day of operation. Being a countywide programs covering all of Wayne County, students and adults are transported from West Salem to Mt. Eaton, from Doylestown to Shreve, and everywhere in between. 

The transportation department operates its own maintenance facility. The mechanics do an excellent job of making sure the fleet passes Ohio State Highway Patrol inspection 100 percent of the time and keeps the fleet in top notch condition. Three state certified on-board bus instructors are employed to train all new employees in-house from start to finish. Dan Marling, Transportation Supervisor, and Bruce Berry, Assistant Transportation Supervisor, manage a staff of 23 drivers, 21 bus aides, 10 van drivers, 1 mail courier, and 3 mechanics.  Several substitute aides and drivers are also employed to fill in where needed.
