Family Resource Services

Family Resource Services is a program of supports for families who care for an individual with developmental disabilities at home. The family member must be eligible to receive services from the Wayne County Board of Developmental Disabilities to participate in the program, though they do not have to be currently involved with any other county board program.

In our county, The Family Resource Services program is administered by Parent to Parent, a non-profit corporation made up of parents of children and adults with disabilities, through a contract with the Wayne County Board of Developmental Disabilities. In addition to funding provided for the program by the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities, the county board also contributes substantially.

Assistance provided includes:

  1. Respite Care
  2. Adaptive Equipment
  3. Special Diet Needs
  4. Home Modifications

  6. Other assistance which meets the general criteria of maintaining the child/adult child with disabilities in the family’s home

Service Coordination

Each adult in the Wayne County Board of Developmental Disabilities system has a contact person and representative called a service coordinator.  The service coordinator leads the team which assists the person, guardian, family and chosen advocates to develop a comprehensive life plan , designed specifically to meet the individual’s unique needs and goals.  Services are tracked and monitored throughout the year to ensure that the plan is carried out and that it continues to meet the person’s needs.

Separate quality assurance reviews are conducted regularly and their results are used by service coordinators and service providers to change and improve the way services are delivered.  Health and safety concerns, monitored by review of unusual incident reports, are immediately addressed by changes in the program.  The service coordinator talks with the individual and his family throughout the year to keep them actively involved in the ongoing planning process, and to help as needed with requests for new services, both within the Developmental Disabilities program and in the community.
